American fashion designer Aisha McShaw hails from Mount Vernon, NY. Aisha recalls art being her favorite class because it made her feel free. At an early age, she found her calling seeded in a great love for fashion and all things beautiful. Her mother and grandmother dressed her in fine clothing and often to her mothers dismay, Aisha would cut or experiment with her own clothes in an effort to create her own looks. She would also try on and wear her mother’s clothes, imagining herself grown up and designing for other women.
At the ripe age of 16 her first foray into the fashion world was working in a small millinery shop, boutiques and reputable department stores, giving her a view of the retail world of fashion. Aisha later ventured into the banking industry for 11 years. One day, while sitting in her office, a customer asked her why she wasn’t working in a creative field. This stuck with her and after some time she realized it was time for her to follow her dreams.
After her declaration of stepping into creativity, she began working at Worth New York as a Wardrobe Consultant where she styled with housewives, corporate women and celebrities. While simultaneously pulling looks for clients and attending many red carpet events, she realized the looks she wanted just did not exist.
One day, Aisha met a woman who was an exemplary pattern maker for many high-end designers. This woman was able to help her bring to life her first creation, planting the seed that has helped hone her craft and finally bring her designs to life.
